Kelut

Observations of Deformation

Volcano number:263280
Region:
Country:Indonesia
Geodetic measurements?Yes
Deformation observation?Yes
Measurement method(s):InSAR, Tiltmeter
Duration of observation:2007 to 2008
Inferred cause(s) of deformation:Magmatic
Characteristics of deformation:

Uplift was observed by Lubis (2014) using InSAR and tiltmeter prior to the November 2007 eruption, despite both measurements have different period of observation. Lubis (2014) observed 11cm uplift from January to May 2007 with the extrusion of a lava dome and inferred the inflation was associated with increased volume of magmatic material in the shallow reservoir.

Following the 2007 eruption, Philibosian and Simons (2011) detected 15cm uplift from July to October 2008. However, this signal is difficult to judge as the signals are limited to the peak of Kelut edifice and there are only two radar acquisitions in the time series.
