Suswa

Observations of Deformation

Volcano number:222110
Region:
Country:Kenya
Geodetic measurements?Yes
Deformation observation?Yes
Measurement method(s):InSAR
Duration of observation:1997 - 2000, 2003 - 2010
Inferred cause(s) of deformation:Uncertain
Characteristics of deformation:

One ERS interferogram from October 1997 to September 2000 showed 4.6 cm of subsidence at Suswa, centred on the inner caldera (Biggs et al. 2009). Since 2000 ALOS and ENVISAT imagery have been used to look at deformation at Suswa, but no deformation has been observed within the thresholds of 0.32 cm/yr and 0.11 cm/yr respectively (Robertson, 2015).
