From 2008-2014, COMET formed a theme within the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), providing expertise and a strategic focus on geohazard research.
After an expansion to include volcanic activity in 2–9, COMET then represented the broader the Dynamic Earth and Geohazards research group within NCEO and involved scientists from the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, University of Leeds, University of Glasgow, University of Reading and University College London.
In 2014, COMET moved from NCEO and transitioned to a closer partnership with the British Geological Survey in recognition of shared research objectives.
Some COMET datasets still feature in the NCEO Core Datasets archive, including Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) and Continuous GPS measurements from the Aegean.
