COMET associate members are a vital and valued part of our membership who contribute greatly to the Centre’s goals and objectives.
COMET Associates are collaborators (academics/independent fellows based in UK universities, or representatives of other public, private or third sector organisations) who are engaged with our work or science programme.
COMET Associates are not directly funded by COMET, but are invited to annual science meetings (and other meetings as appropriate), included in internal communications, and encouraged to collaborate and engage with COMET members for mutual benefit.
There is also the opportunity to apply for small funding grants to contribute to COMET-related activities. COMET Associates based in UK universities can apply for the following grants:
- COMET Internship, to support an 8-week intern.
- COMET EDI and Outreach Fund. Up to £3k per project.
- COMET Training and Travel Grants. Up to £500 per applicant.
- COMET Event Response, Fieldwork and Imagery Fund. Usually up to £5000 per applicant.
In collaboration with a COMET member based in a university, COMET Associates in industry or external organisations can apply for the following:
- COMET Internship, to support an 8-week intern.
- COMET EDI and Outreach Fund. Up to £3k per project.
COMET also has a thriving early career researcher (ECR) and student community. While a few
studentships and postdoctoral researchers are funded directly by COMET, most of the students within
the COMET community are externally funded. Any students or postdoctoral researchers who are
supervised by COMET members are automatically granted COMET membership and included in our
network.
If you are interested in becoming a COMET associate please fill in this short form:
The COMET Executive Committee will assess Associate applications throughout the year at quarterly
meetings to ensure complementarity with COMET objectives. You will be contacted about the
outcome of your application within 5 working days after the COMET Executive Committee review.
The committee will review the status of COMET associates every 5-years (alongside renewal of the COMET science programme), at which point you will be contacted to update your membership details and to ensure you would still like to remain a COMET member.
