Andy Nowacki is a lecturer at the University of Leeds and COMET Associate since 2015.  He is a seismologist who uses natural tiny vibrations in the ground from sources such as local earthquakes, volcanic processes or ocean waves to better understand volcanic processes.  He also uses seismic anisotropy to understand the location, orientation and density of fluids in volcanic systems, as well as the automatic location of earthquakes and seismic energy, and its use to create tomographic images of the subsurface.

Andy completed his PhD in Bristol, then undertook a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Leeds before taking up his current position.  He currently leads one of the university’s Geosolutions projects to image deep volcano-geothermal systems in Ethiopia, Iceland and the USA.
