Jurgen Neuberg is a Professor at the University of Leeds. He has a degree in Physics from Karlsruhe University, Germany, PhD in Physics on ‘Earth Core Resonance’, worked on inversion of gravity data, on earth tides, and long wavelength features of the core-mantle boundary (CMB). Post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA; seismological investigation of the lowermost mantle and the CMB. Lectureship at Gadjah Mada University, Yogya, Indonesia; Has been in Leeds since September 1991. Sabbaticals in New Zealand, La Reunion and Singapore. Jurgen Neuberg is chairman of the IAVCEI/IASPEI joint commission on Volcano Seismology since 2000. Since 1997 he has been involved in the monitoring efforts of Soufriere Hills volcano, Montserrat. From 2003 to 2023 he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), which he has chaired from 2014 to 2023.

Research interests include the understanding of different types of volcanic signals, linking seismic observations to magmatic processes, the interpretation of volcanic deformation signals, and risk assessment on active volcanoes in the Caribbean and Southeast Asia.
