Areas of Expertise: Volcanology and environmental geochemistry

Tamsin Mather is a professor at the University of Oxford. Tamsin uses satellite Earth Observation data in combination with other aerial and ground-based methods to study volcanic processes including deformation, degassing and environmental impacts. Her research is motivated by understanding volcanoes as hazards, resources and agents of local to planetary-scale environmental change or maintenance.

She completed her PhD in 2004 at the University of Cambridge and moved to Oxford in 2006 as a lecturer. She was made a full professor in 2014 and elected as a fellow of the Royal Society in 2024. Tamsin works closely with collaborators around the world, including Latin America, north America, the Caribbean, Ethiopia, Iceland and Italy.
