Associated Projects: Leverhulme Trust for support through the program EROICA (the Earthquake Ruptures of Iran and Central Asia, RPG-2018-371) and the NERC-funded COMET (GA/13/M/031) https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jseaes.2023.105925, https://doi.org/10.55575/tektonika2024.2.1.49

Zakeria Shnizai is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford, specializing in active tectonics and geology through the integration of satellite imagery and field data. He earned his PhD in 2020 from Doshisha University in Japan, focusing on Afghanistan’s active tectonics, seismic hazard assessments, and slip-rate estimations of the Chaman Fault using advanced cosmogenic Beryllium-10 dating techniques.

Following his doctorate, Shnizai served as a lecturer at Kabul Polytechnic University in Afghanistan, teaching a range of geological subjects, including geophysics, tectonics, GIS, and remote sensing, while also conducting research on regional tectonic dynamics. In 2022, he joined the University of Oxford, where he continues to lead research in active tectonics and collaborates on innovative projects within this field.
