Jebel Zubair Group

Observations of Deformation

Volcano number:221020
Region:
Country:Yemen
Geodetic measurements?Yes
Deformation observation?Yes
Measurement method(s):InSAR
Duration of observation:2011 - 2013
Inferred cause(s) of deformation:Magmatic
Characteristics of deformation:

Between 2011 and 2013 two new islands formed in the Zubair group (syn. Jebel Zubair, Zubair Archipelago), just north of Rugged Island. Their formation was studied using InSAR, to monitor deformation and to produce a high resolution DEM by Xu et al. (2015). They report the island formation to be due to magmatic dyke intrusions, orientated N-S. The depth of intrusion could not be constrained, however.
