Observations of Deformation
Volcano number: | 342090 |
---|---|
Region: | Mexico and Central America |
Country: | Guatemala |
Geodetic measurements? | Yes |
Deformation observation? | Yes |
Measurement method(s): | InSAR, Tilt recorded by broadband seismometers |
Duration of observation: | 2007-2010 (InSAR), 2009 (seismometer recorded tilt) |
Inferred cause(s) of deformation: | Magmatic |
Characteristics of deformation: | No deformation was observed at Fuego (detection threshold 5.1 cm/yr) during an ALOS survey of Central American volcanoes (Ebmeier et al., 2013). Lack of deformation despite continuous eruption over this period is explained by Fuego having an open conduit system which doesn’t pressurise over long time periods. |
