Observations of Deformation
Volcano number: | 373010 |
---|---|
Region: | Iceland and Arctic Ocean |
Country: | Iceland |
Geodetic measurements? | Yes |
Deformation observation? | Yes |
Measurement method(s): | GPS - campaign |
Duration of observation: | Before 1998, 2004 |
Inferred cause(s) of deformation: | Magmatic |
Characteristics of deformation: | GPS measurements showed ~2cm uplift before the 1998 eruption and subsidence after and then again uplift in September 2004. The volcano increased in it’s seismic activity after 2003. The last eruption occurred after a swarm on November 1st 2003. (Sturkell et al., 2006) |
