Observations of Deformation

Volcano number:222060
Region:
Country:Kenya
Geodetic measurements?Yes
Deformation observation?Yes
Measurement method(s):InSAR
Duration of observation:October 1997 - September 2000, 2003 - 2010
Characteristics of deformation:

Between 1997 – 2000 one ERS interferogram measured 3 cm of subsidence (Biggs et al 2009). This signal was modelled as a penny shaped crack source geometry, with diameter of 5.5 km at a depth of 1.5 km.
Robertson (2015) looked at ALOS interferograms between 2003 – 2010, but no deformation was recorded (within a 0.66 cm/yr deformation threshold).
